About the Role
The City of Goose Creek’s Crowfield Golf Course is located just 19 miles from downtown Charleston in the heart of South Carolina’s Lowcountry, offering an exceptional opportunity to work in one of the region’s most desirable areas. We are seeking a motivated professional available to start June 1, 2026, with hands-on golf course maintenance experience, including leading a maintenance crew. A degree in turf management and prior experience managing warm-season turf are strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
This position is responsible for all turf management, landscape maintenance and maintenance staff management of the Crowfield Golf Club’s entire property including golf course, clubhouse grounds and all adjacent City owned areas.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Turf Grass Management, Horticulture, or Agronomy.
• 5 years’ experience as a golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent.
• Any combination of education and experience totaling six years may be considered.
• Valid South Carolina Pesticide Applicators license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Valid South Carolina Driver’s license or ability to obtain.
• Certified or class A Member of GCSAA and CGCSA or ability to become certified or class A in the future.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Administers and supervises the activities and personnel of the maintenance staff.
• Reports to the General Manager, planning the direction and expectations of the golf course condition.
• Meets with City personnel, homeowners, developers, engineers and customers, regarding projects.
• Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation, pumping, and water reservoir systems.
• Supervises all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs and trees on the golf course grounds.
• Develops and implements a fertilizer, aeration, and pest management program for proper turf grass and plant care.
• Supervises construction projects.
• Supervises equipment maintenance and repair operations.
• Establishes and implements a cleaning and preventative maintenance program for appropriate equipment, tools, and vehicles.
• Ensures maintenance and cleanliness of equipment repair areas, equipment storage areas, chemical, and fertilizer storage areas.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA, Berkeley County Stormwater and Clemson department of pesticide regulation, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety and public safety.
• Maintains accurate records pertaining to golf course activities, including labor schedules, course maintenance, equipment repair, fertilizer and chemical applications, and pest control practices.
• Serves as back up to co-workers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
SAFETY
Employee is responsible for adhering to and overseeing all safety procedures and regulations established by the City and all State and Federal organizations. Any safety concern should be reported to the supervisor immediately.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed outdoors with constant exposure to noise, dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, insects and inclement weather. Employees are exposed to a variety of maintenance equipment, chemicals and golfers.
