About the Role
Overview
The Head Golf Professional at Pelham Country Club will be the leading ambassador for the entire Golf Operations. He/she is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the golf operation, including golf services, tournament programming, instruction, merchandising, and staff leadership. As a golf shop concessionaire, the Head Professional will run the shop as an independent business while closely collaborating with club leadership to ensure alignment with PCC standards. Reporting to the General Manager and Board of Governors, the Head Golf Professional will be focused on ensuring that all members and guests have an exceptional golf experience. The successful candidate will embrace the legacy of the Club and be a key steward helping to create the next chapter in the Club’s history.
Experience Required
Including, but not limited to, the following:
PGA of America Class “A” Membership
Minimum of five years of experience at a private facility as either a Head Golf Professional or Lead Assistant Golf Professional, including leadership in golf operations and merchandising
Ability to create an outstanding golf experience for all facility users
Proven success in golf shop management, tournament and program administration, special events, and instruction
Proficiency with golf industry technologies (Jonas, Golf Genius, POS systems, GHIN, etc)
History of recruiting and mentoring a premier golf staff
Entrepreneurial mindset with a professional approach to operating a retail business
Ability to engage with a wide variety of members and guests; ability to provide suggestions and/or constructive criticism when appropriate
Proven ability to deliver high-level instruction and strong playing ability
Willingness to continuously improve all programs; proven record of program growth
Strong leadership and organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and strong interpersonal skills
Willingness to engage in the MET PGA Section and beyond
Strong integrity and a high level of professionalism
Financial Acumen and Merchandising Ability
Ability to hire, train, and evaluate the performance of staff in the golf shop as well as in the starters area
Well-versed in the USGA Rules of Golf
Essential Responsibilities
Provide exceptional member and guest service across all facets of the golf operation
Manage all golf facilities, including the Golf Shop and practice facilities
Enforce Club rules and regulations
Oversee the Club’s golf-related technology systems
Deliver and oversee private instruction, group clinics, and player development programs for all ages and levels of ability
Create, market, and lead an appealing tournament and golf events schedule in conjunction with management and the Golf Committee
Lead a strong merchandising program through the golf shop, including inventory, visual presentation, marketing, and sales
Provide written communication through regular notices to the membership about tournaments, programs, ongoing events, and opportunities
Work closely with the Greens Superintendent on course conditions, play coordination, and special event setup
Hire, train, schedule, and supervise golf staff, including assistants
Instill and maintain a staff commitment to service and focus on delivering an exceptional member experience
Reporting activities of the department to management and the Golf Committee
Ensure compliance with club policies and PGA standards, and serve as a representative of the MET PGA and the PGA of America
