About the Role
Overview
The Assistant Golf Professional plays a vital role in delivering an exceptional golf experience while supporting the daily operations of the golf shop and golf operations department. This position is responsible for providing outstanding customer service, coordinating league operations, assisting with tournaments and club events, driving retail sales initiatives, supervising the golf cart staff, and serving as the Manager on Duty when senior leadership is unavailable.
The Assistant Golf Professional is expected to lead by example, maintain a highly organized operation, and foster a welcoming environment for annual passholders, guests, and staff.
Work Schedule Expectations
Golf shop operating hours are:
5:15 AM - 7:30 PM
Monday through Sunday
Assistant Golf Professionals are expected to work a flexible schedule that could include:
Early mornings
Evenings
Weekends
Holidays
Tournament and special event days
Schedules will vary based on operational needs and seasonal demands.
Essential Responsibilities
Golf Shop Operations
Provide exceptional customer service to all guests.
Open and close the golf shop as scheduled.
Manage tee sheets, check-in procedures, pace of play, and daily operations.
Answer phones, process reservations, and assist with customer inquiries.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional golf shop environment.
Ensure golf shop policies and procedures are consistently followed.
League Management
Plan, organize, and administer all assigned outdoor and indoor golf leagues.
Manage registrations, scheduling, scoring, handicaps, standings, and communications.
Coordinate league events, playoffs, and prize distribution.
Develop new league opportunities to increase participation and revenue.
Tournaments & Club Events
Assist with planning and executing tournaments, member events, clinics, and special golf programs.
Prepare tournament materials, pairings, scoring, and awards.
Ensure events are professionally organized and executed.
Retail & Merchandising
Promote golf shop merchandise through effective sales techniques.
Assist with merchandising displays, inventory organization, and product presentation.
Support sales promotions and seasonal merchandising initiatives.
Help achieve departmental retail sales goals.
Cart Operations
Directly supervise the golf cart staff.
Assist with training, coaching, and evaluating cart attendants.
Ensure carts are cleaned, staged, fueled/charged, and ready for daily play.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cart barn and staging areas.
Ensure staff follows safety and customer service standards.
Manager on Duty Responsibilities
When the Director of Golf Operations and First Assistant Golf Professional are off property, the Assistant Golf Professional serves as the acting Manager on Duty.
Responsibilities include:
Leading daily golf operations.
Making operational decisions regarding pace of play, weather delays, customer concerns, and staffing.
Handling member and guest issues professionally.
Coordinating with maintenance, food & beverage, and clubhouse staff.
Ensuring all facilities operate safely and efficiently.
