About the Role
Pajaro Valley Golf Club is seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent with strong irrigation expertise to join our grounds management team. This role is central to maintaining pristine playing conditions across the course, with a particular focus on irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and water management. The ideal candidate combines hands-on turfgrass management skills with technical irrigation knowledge and thrives in a fast-paced, outdoor work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, program, and maintain the golf course irrigation system, including central control software, satellites, pumps, and sprinkler headsDiagnose and repair irrigation system malfunctions, including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issuesAssist the Golf Course Superintendent in managing daily turf maintenance operations, including mowing, fertilization, aerification, and pest managementSupervise, train, and schedule grounds crew staffMonitor water usage and implement efficient irrigation scheduling to conserve resources while maintaining course qualityMaintain accurate records of irrigation maintenance, water usage, and chemical applicationsAssist with equipment maintenance and ensure proper use of maintenance equipmentSupport the Superintendent in budgeting, ordering supplies, and course improvement projectsEnsure compliance with all safety protocols and environmental regulationsStep in for the Superintendent as needed in their absenceQualifications
Minimum 2-3 years of golf course maintenance experience, with demonstrated irrigation system expertiseWorking knowledge of irrigation central control systems (e.g., Toro, Rain Bird, or similar)Degree or coursework in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field preferredPesticide Applicator's License (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skillsAbility to read and interpret irrigation system schematics and blueprintsLeadership experience supervising crew membersValid driver's licenseAbility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as neededPhysical ability to perform outdoor manual labor in varying weather conditionsWhat We Offer
