About the Role
Job Overview The Golf Course Assistant Superintendent will work a forty-hour week with a flexible schedule to include holidays, weekends, early AM hours and overtime as assigned by supervisor. The employee shall receive 1/2 hour for lunch, not paid. The Golf Course Assistant Superintendent will be on call during emergencies.
The Golf Course Assistant Superintendent is based at the Armitage Golf Club Maintenance Building, 800 Orr’s Bridge Road, Mechanicsburg.
The Golf Course Assistant Superintendent is responsible for, both independently and through supervision of assigned staff, providing an effective and efficient high-quality maintenance program for Armitage Golf Club. Golf Course Assistant Superintendent will assume the responsibilities of the Golf Course Superintendent in his/her absence.
Responsibilities
Operates all types of golf course maintenance equipment necessary for grooming and maintenance of the Armitage Golf Club in a safe, effective and efficient manner
Assists with maintenance of equipment, including but not limited to, grinding reels, setting mow height and performance equipment winter maintenance.
Constructs, maintains and repairs all types of physical features of the golf course, including but not limited to fairways, greens, tees and bunkers. Example of duties include sod work, Bunker edging and Tree removal.
Operates, maintains and repairs the course irrigation system including hand watering when needed.
Applies pesticides, fertilizers, topdressing, topsoil, sand, mulch, seed and sod.
Cuts cups on greens, moves tee markers, repairs divots, ball marks and plugs.
Assists with the supervision of maintenance personnel to include responsibility for the quality/quantity of their work and completion of work schedules and assignments in a timely fashion and training employees on proper equipment operation.
Observes and assists with enforcing all rules and regulations to ensure a safe facility for customers and a safe working environment for maintenance employees.
Participates in training of assigned maintenance personnel working at the golf course and provides input to the Golf Course Superintendent concerning employee evaluations.
Repairs or reports any faulty safety devices and promptly reports any safety concerns or suggestions to supervisor.
Provides budget recommendations to the Golf Course Superintendent.
Participates in Township snow removal as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Graduate of two or four year Turf program.
Pesticide Applicator's License with Category (7), Lawn and Turf or ability to obtain within six months.
Working understanding of turf grass, turf grass pests, chemicals and the equipment needed to maintain turf grass.
Ability to understand and follow directions, lead and supervise staff in an effective/efficient manner, communicate clearly and concisely in both verbal and written form, work with pro shop staff, restaurant staff and the public in a positive, polite, effective manner.
Ability to perform manual tasks or operate equipment for extended periods in adverse weather conditions and lift objects up to 50 pounds waist high.
