Director of Agronomy & Grounds

Big Easy Ranch is seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Agronomy & Grounds to lead all golf course maintenance, landscaping, and grounds operations throughout the property. As a private members-only sporting club, Big Easy Ranch is committed to providing members and guests with exceptional course conditions, beautiful grounds, and a first-class golf experience. Big Easy Ranch features 30 holes of golf.  The Covey, an 18-hole championship course which was awarded best new private golf course for 2024 by Golf Digest and also debuted at #111 in the Golf Digest Top 200 courses in the US in 2025.   The Antler, a 12-hole par 3 course that was renovated during the first half of 2026, reopening in September 2026.  The Covey has hosted numerous prestigious championships with others upcoming: - 2025 Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship - 2026 Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play - 2027 Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship - 2029 Texas State Amateur Reporting directly to the General Manager and working closely with the Director of Golf, the Director of Agronomy & Grounds is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day agronomy operations, maintaining championship-level playing conditions, managing budgets and personnel, and ensuring the health and appearance of all golf course turf, landscaping, common areas, and grounds throughout the property. The ideal candidate is a strong leader, effective communicator, and experienced agronomy professional with extensive knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, golf course construction and maintenance, and team development. Club Highlights: - Total Annual Rounds:  18,000 - Total Staff:  50 (38 Agronomy/12 Landscaping) - Turf Types: - Greens:  TifEagle - Tees/Fairways/Approaches/Rough:  Zeon Zoysia - Practice Tee:  Zeon Zoysia - Irrigation System:  Rain Bird - Equipment:  John Deere, Toro; combination of purchased and leased assets Preferred Qualifications: - Proven success in the management and maintenance of Bermuda grass putting greens - Experience overseeing and maintaining Zoysia turfgrass - Strong communication, leadership, and organizational abilities - Extensive golf knowledge with a thorough understanding of championship-caliber course setup and conditioning Essential Functions: - Lead and manage all golf course maintenance, landscaping, and grounds operations throughout the property. - Establish and maintain championship-level standards for greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and practice facilities. - Develop and implement agronomic programs for turf health, fertility, pest management, and environmental stewardship. - Manage irrigation systems, water delivery systems, pumps, wells, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. - Develop annual budgets, operational plans, and capital improvement recommendations for all agronomy and grounds operations. - Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate agronomy staff, assistant superintendents, and grounds personnel. - Coordinate hiring, onboarding, development, and performance management of department employees. - Maintain records related to chemical applications, fertilizer programs, fuel usage, irrigation, and maintenance activities. - Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding chemicals, pesticides, and environmental practices. - Manage procurement and inventory of fertilizers, chemicals, equipment, and grounds supplies. - Work closely with the Director of Golf to coordinate golf events, tournaments, maintenance schedules, and course conditions. - Communicate regularly with members regarding course conditions, projects, and agronomic practices. - Lead construction projects, course renovations, and grounds improvement initiatives. - Stay current on industry trends, turfgrass research, technology, and best management practices. - Perform additional duties assigned by the CEO/General Manager. Secondary Job Functions: - Assist with club-wide improvement projects and special events as needed. • Support other departments with grounds and landscaping needs throughout the property. • Attend professional development opportunities, conferences, and industry seminars. • Help promote a positive working relationship between agronomy staff, golf operations, and club management. • Maintain a professional and positive presence throughout the club. Education Requirements: - Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, or a related field required. - Minimum of 10 years of golf course management experience, including at least 5 years as a Golf Course Superintendent.
