2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
The Atlanta Athletic Club (AAC) is a prestigious private 36‑hole facility located 25 miles north of Atlanta. Founded in 1898 by a group of young professionals seeking a place to enjoy both indoor and outdoor athletics, the Club has continued to grow and evolve over its long history. Originally established downtown on Edgewood Avenue, AAC expanded over the decades, adding a golf course and country club at East Lake in 1915 before relocating to its current Johns Creek location in the late 1960's. The Club has been home to many great athletes, most notably Bobby Jones.
AAC has hosted multiple major championships, most recently the 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and 2025 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship and continues its strong partnership with the USGA.

In January 2022, the Riverside Course underwent a complete rebuild and redesign under architect Tripp Davis, including installation of a full HDPE irrigation system, sand‑capped fairways and tees, extensive drainage improvements, and architectural reshaping. In 2027, the Highlands course will undergo a complete rebuild and redesign under the direction of architect Andrew Green. This will include an all HDPE irrigation system, installation of 50+ miles of sub surface drainage, and a significant redesign of the 55-year-old course.
Position Summary
The 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Lead Assistant Superintendent and plays an integral role in daily golf course operations. This position is responsible for the proper calibration, mixing, and application of all fertilizers and pesticides across greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and other designated areas. The role also assists with staff direction, training, and supervision, and performs additional tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or Lead Assistant.

Primary Responsibilities
Calibrate and operate sprayers, spreaders, and related application equipmentApply fertilizers and pesticides and maintain accurate application recordsPerform daily course operations including mowing, spraying, fertilizing, course setup, hand watering, etc.Train and instruct equipment operators on proper mower and equipment use and maintenanceIdentify turfgrass diseases, weeds, pests, and nutrient deficienciesLead and supervise small crews during special projects and daily tasksOperate the irrigation control system following Superintendent guidelines; assist with irrigation repairs as neededMaintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to chemical storage, handling, and disposalInteract professionally with members, guests, and colleaguesPerform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Lead Assistant Superintendent
Qualifications
2–3 years of progressive golf course management experienceAssociate degree or higher in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, soil science, or related fieldValid driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordAbility to obtain a Georgia Pesticide Applicator License within 90 days of employment
