Assistant Golf Professional

An Assistant Golf Professional at Oyster Harbors Club should expect to be in this position for two to five years and possess a strong desire to become a Head Golf Professional. Assistant Golf Professionals will report to the Head Golf Professional and will work closely with the other members of the Professional Team. Our main goal is to provide exceptional member service by utilizing teamwork to create a culture of selflessness. In addition to assisting with day-to-day operations, this position will have responsibilities within tournament operations, merchandising, golf instruction, junior golf programming, starting daily play and playing golf with the membership. Norris, an entrepreneur and developer from Boston, purchased the island. The Olmstead brothers, the landscape architects who famously designed Central Park in New York and the “Gardens” in Boston, were engaged to plan roads and homesites, and Donald Ross was challenged to build “the best course ever”. During the fall of 1925 and for the following year, 348 men, 96 horses, 6 tractors, 2 steam shovels, 42 trucks, 2 tree pullers and a steam roller removed 800,000 trees from the 140 acres reserved for the course. All of the holes remained heavily tree lined until the hurricane of 1944 during which tens of thousands of trees were lost. The course remains as one of Ross’ greatest creations. Established in 1926, Oyster Harbors Club is a private, family-oriented club located in Osterville, Massachusetts. We have 440 members and are situated on an exclusive private island with an 18-hole top rated Donald Ross original design and Gil Hanse restored golf course, 5 HarTru tennis courts, a children’s day camp, and a private beach. Oyster Harbors Club has a storied golf history hosting a record 8 Massachusetts Opens hosting as recently as this past Massachusetts Open in the 2026 season. The first Mass Open was held in 1932 when Francis Ouimet was able to defeat players such as Bobby Jones on his way to victory. In 1940, Horton Smith won the Massachusetts Open at Oyster Harbors, Horton was famous for winning the first ever Masters Tournament. In the fall and winter of 2024-2025, world renowned golf course architect, Gil Hanse, completed a historic golf course restoration in preparation for Oyster Harbors to host the 2026 Massachusetts Open. Gil and his team took the original 1926 Donald Ross design and adjusted some features to be more impactful due to today’s technology and swing advancements. A number of fairway bunkers were moved further downrange to challenge high swing speed players and offer more generous landing areas to lower swing speed players. Greenside bunkers were rebuilt to their original sand splashed aesthetic.
