About Us Located in the heart of the beautiful Tampa Bay area, Tarpon Woods Golf Course is a classic 18-hole public facility known for its scenic layout and abundant wildlife. We pride ourselves on providing an exceptional, welcoming golf experience for our local community. We are currently seeking a hands-on, passionate Golf Course Superintendent to lead our agronomy team and elevate our course conditions to the next level.
The Role: As the Golf Course Superintendent, you will be the driving force behind the daily maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course, clubhouse grounds, and practice facilities. You will lead a dedicated maintenance crew, manage the agronomy budget, and work closely with the General Manager to ensure the course meets the highest standards of playability.
What You Will Do:
• Turf Management: Execute a comprehensive agronomic plan (fertilization, pest control, weed mitigation) specifically tailored to Florida's warm-season grasses.
• Team Leadership: Hire, train, schedule, and supervise the maintenance staff while fostering a culture of safety and efficiency.
• Irrigation Management: Oversee the repair and programming of the irrigation system, ensuring compliance with local SWFWMD water regulations.
• Financial Oversight: Help develop the annual maintenance budget, track inventory, and manage daily departmental expenses.
• Project Management: Lead course improvement projects, including bunker renovations, drainage improvements, and tree management.
• Environmental Compliance: Ensure safe storage and application of all chemicals in strict compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Direct and Implement: The Florida Golf Course Best Management Practices (BMP) program, focusing on water conservation, water quality protection, and precise nutrient management.
What We’re Looking For:
• Experience: 3–5 years of golf course maintenance experience, with at least 1–2 years as a Superintendent or First Assistant. (Experience with Florida turf/climate is highly preferred).
• Experience: Knowledge and experience with Toro OSMAC (One Station Multi-Access Controller) Irrigation System.
• Licensing: Must possess a State of Florida Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) Applicator License
• Certification: UF/IFAS Florida Golf Course BMP Certification is required.
• Skills: Strong leadership abilities, great communication, and a solid understanding of how course maintenance impacts the game of golf.
• Physical: Ability to work outdoors in the Florida heat, lift up to 50 lbs, and work a flexible schedule (including early mornings, weekends, and holidays).
