Hempstead Golf & Country Club General Manager (GM) Board-Approved Position Profile Opportunity Overview Hempstead Golf & Country Club seeks an accomplished, visionary, and member-focused executive to serve as its next General Manager (GM). Reporting directly to the Board of Directors through the Club President, the GM will serve as the Club's senior operating executive and strategic leader, partnering with the Board to ensure the long-term success, financial strength, and cultural vitality of one of the region's premier private clubs. The successful candidate will lead all aspects of Club operations while preserving the traditions, values, and member experience that define Hempstead Golf & Country Club. This role is designed to provide strong executive leadership, organizational stability, and operational excellence while creating an environment that attracts, develops, and retains top talent. The Club has recently initiated a Long Range Master Plan for both the facilities and the golf course and is seeking a leader who can thoughtfully guide the organization through its next chapter of growth and modernization while maintaining a deep respect for its heritage and membership. The Board believes the structure of this role should be guided by what best positions the Club for long-term success, effective governance, and organizational continuity. Position Purpose The GM is responsible for leading all Club operations, managing financial performance, enhancing the member experience, developing staff, and executing the strategic vision established by the Board of Directors. The GM serves as: · Leader of Club Operations and Guardian of Financial Performance · Strategic Partner to the Board and Leader of Organizational Culture · Steward of the Member Experience · Champion of Staff Development and Succession Planning Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Governance · Serve as the principal advisor to the Board of Directors on all operational matters. · Collaborate with the Board to develop and execute a multi-year strategic plan. · Translate Board priorities into actionable organizational objectives. · In conjunction with the Master Planning process, provide proactive recommendations regarding facilities, operations, membership, capital investment, and long-term sustainability. · Ensure the Club remains aligned with industry best practices and emerging trends in private club management. Member Experience Excellence · Foster a culture of exceptional hospitality and service throughout the organization. · Maintain a highly visible and engaged presence within the Club. · Develop authentic relationships with members and their families. · Anticipate member needs and continuously enhance programs, services, and amenities. · Ensure member feedback is actively solicited, reviewed, and incorporated into Club operations. Operational Leadership Oversee all departments and operational areas, including: · Golf Operations, Course and Grounds · Food & Beverage, Events and Social Programming · Clubhouse Operations · Racquet and Recreational Programs · Facilities Maintenance · Membership Services · Administration and Human Resources · Finance and Accounting The GM will ensure all departments operate cohesively, efficiently, and in alignment with the Club's strategic objectives. Financial Stewardship · Lead annual budget development and long-range financial planning. · Maintain strong financial controls and governance practices. · Monitor operating performance and implement corrective action when needed. · Develop capital improvement plans and investment recommendations. · Provide transparent and timely financial reporting to the Board. Key Financial Expectations · Achieve annual operating budget objectives. · Preserve and enhance Club assets. · Improve operational efficiency while maintaining service excellence. · Support thoughtful capital investment planning. Organizational Leadership & Talent Development · Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional leadership talent. · Build an accountable, collaborative, and high-performing culture. · Establish clear performance expectations and development plans. · Lead succession planning for key positions. · Promote open communication and organizational transparency. The GM will be expected to lead with integrity, humility, professionalism, and emotional intelligence. Facilities & Capital Projects · Oversee Long Range Master Plan on facility and infrastructure. · Lead major capital projects from planning through implementation. · Ensure facilities reflect the quality and standards expected by the membership. · Manage external architects, contractors, consultants, and vendors when required. Reporting Relationships Reports To Board of Directors through the Club President Team Leader and Coordinator of following areas: · Director of Golf · Golf Course Superintendent · Director of Food & Beverage · Controller / Finance Director · Facilities Director · Membership Director · Human Resources Leader · Additional department heads as determined by the organizational structure The final reporting structure should be designed to support operational effectiveness and the Club's long-term strategic objectives.
