Villa Roma Resort & Conference Center is a premier family resort destination in the Catskills featuring a championship 18-hole golf course. Our pristine grounds are central to our guests' experience, and we take pride in maintaining our facilities to the highest standards.
Status: Full-time or Seasonal (March-November)
Position Summary
The Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic and playability of our golf course through daily care of greens, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and surrounding landscapes. This position plays a vital role in creating an exceptional golfing experience for our guests while supporting the broader resort environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform daily maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, and roughs according to established standards
Operate specialized turf equipment including mowers, aerators, spreaders, and sprayers
Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides under supervision as required
Prepare and maintain sand bunkers
Monitor and adjust irrigation systems as directed
Identify and report turf diseases, irrigation issues, or equipment malfunctions
Assist with special projects such as drainage installation, tree maintenance, or landscape renovation
Set up course according to daily specifications (tee markers, cup cutting, etc.)
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
Maintain cleanliness of maintenance shop and equipment storage areas
Support seasonal course preparations including opening and closing procedures
Assist with tournament preparation when needed
Complete all tasks with minimal disruption to golfers
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous golf course or grounds maintenance experience preferred but not required
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Ability to safely operate specialized turf equipment
Basic understanding of turfgrass management practices
Pesticide applicator license or willingness to obtain (preferred)
Knowledge of golf etiquette and basic rules of the game
Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently
Excellent attention to detail
Commitment to safety procedures and protocols
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods
Ability to start work early (typically 5:00-6:00 AM during peak season)
Availability to work weekends and holidays during golf season
What to Expect in Golf Course Maintenance
Early morning start times (often beginning at sunrise) to complete course preparation before players arrive
Seasonal schedule with longer hours during peak growing season (spring/summer)
Operation of specialized equipment specific to golf course maintenance
Regular rotation of duties including mowing greens, fairways, tees, and roughs
Hand-watering during dry periods to maintain consistent turf quality
Participation in aeration, topdressing, and overseeding processes
Precise attention to details that affect playability (cup cutting, bunker raking, etc.)
Team-oriented environment focused on course conditions and player experience
